What's fertility awareness?
Fertility awareness (natural family planning) means knowing when your fertile days occur each month and using condoms or other precautions if you want to avoid pregnancy.
You could just get an app or a fertility monitor, but those aren't always reliable. And what happens if the zombie apocalypse arrives? It's good to know some stuff.
Sexual health charities and the NHS website recommend you get specialist support (from a Fertility UK practitioner like me) before you use fertility awareness as contraception.
So long as you know what you're doing, and you can handle using condoms or other precautions for about ten days a month, fertility awareness can be up to 99 per cent effective as contraception (fpa*).

* The fpa (sexual health charity that supplies information to the NHS), says up to one woman out of a hundred will get pregnant each year if they use fertility awareness to avoid pregnancy. That means it can be about as effective as the pill, if you use it correctly.
