I understand you’re on the group that will tomorrow decide whether data from clinical trials will be made public. This is important to me because of my 20 years as an NHS librarian, and because of my work as a fertility awareness (natural family planning) teacher. Women usually see me because they have not got on with the pill for one reason or another and want to learn how to avoid pregnancy without using hormones. There is a perfectly respectable evidence base for this work – though it is not as big as it could be, partly because this is not a big business.
Despite my jealousy of the money that Big Pharma is able to put into research and marketing, I am a supporter of much of their work. I immunised my daughter at the height of the MMR jab scares. I have

family and friends whose lives have been saved and improved by modern medicine The contraceptive pill, and other hormonal contraceptives, might not suit everyone but I appreciate the importance of these options for many women. I also appreciate how important the presence of the pharmaceutical industry is for jobs in the UK, both in the industry itself and in linked organisations such as universities, research establishments and marketing firms.
Still, just like any industry, the way that the pharmaceutical industry operates cannot just be left to the open market and the lobbyists, we need you politicians to represent our interests. It is British taxes that have paid for most of these drugs (via the NHS) so British people should be able to get the benefit. I’ve signed the AllTrials petition because:
I look forward to hearing from you.

It is British taxes that have paid for most of these drugs (via the NHS) so British people should be able to get the benefit. I’ve signed the AllTrials petition because:
- The trust of patients who have volunteered for clinical trials is betrayed when findings generated by their participation are locked away
- Incomplete information means doctors could make bad treatment decisions and miss opportunities for good medicine
- Researchers don’t know what was found in previous trials, or even that some trials happened, so trials are repeated unnecessarily
I look forward to hearing from you.
